Thoughts from Community Board

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Indiana Walk to Emmaus (SIWE), we would like to thank the 4th day members for their continued prayers and devotion to our Emmaus community.  It takes a lot of hard work each walk season to orchestrate these events.  I have always loved Proverbs 27:17,  As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”.    We see a lot of “iron being sharpened” on the Emmaus weekends, and our 4th day people are a big reason why.  All parts of these weekends are important, whether it be sponsoring a pilgrim, serving on a team, serving meals, making agape, participating in the 72-hour prayer vigil, attending a gathering or candlelight, and the list goes on and on.  There is a role for everyone to play in the Emmaus community and no one duty is more important than the other.  Christ calls us all to serve in different ways.  But each form of agape is needed to make each walk special for the pilgrims.

We want to thank Camp Illiana for the amazing facilities they offer for our walks.  Ben and the staff work very hard to keep our needs met in every way.  It seems they are constantly upgrading some part of the camp.  In return, we ask you help us to always return the camp as good or better than we found it.  This will insure that we can all enjoy this special place for many years to come.

Obviously, sponsorship is a key part to building the Emmaus community.  However, we ask that you prayerfully consider individuals when sponsoring.  Emmaus is intended for those who regularly attend a church and are looking to deepen their relationship with Christ.  It is this deepening relationship that moves those individuals to become Christian leaders.

Walk dates can be found near the bottom of this page.  We ask for your prayers for the Emmaus community, the teams and pilgrims, and the Board of Directors as we make decisions for the community, always seeking Gods will in everything we do.  Please feel free to contact any of the board members if you have question or concern.  Our contact information is listed on this website.  We meet monthly (1st Tuesday of each month) at First Baptist Church in Petersburg, Indiana, at 7:00pm

Your Brother in Christ

Mens Walk 59

I am so excited and honored to be the Lay Director for Men’s Walk 59, which will take place September 5,6,7 & 8, 2019. Prayerfully, the team that God has chosen (He let me call them), will lead the pilgrims that He sends us, on an eternal journey with Him.

The theme for Walk 59 is “Surrender” and the theme song is, “At The Cross” by Chris Tomlin. The theme verse is Acts 2:21, “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Pretty simple. Surrender. At the cross. Call on Him.

Speaking for Team 59 I would like to really encourage you to come out and show your love of Jesus to these pilgrims. There are many ways to do this either through written agape, gifts, table agape, serving meals, washing dishes, clean-up, set-up, attending candlelight, signing up for the prayer chart, etc. Remember how much those forms of agape meant to you?

Speaking of prayer, your prayers are certainly appreciated for the team and the pilgrims beginning right now. There’s no need to wait until the weekend. Check out the SIWE website to get a current list of the pilgrims that are signed up. As you all are certainly aware, prayer is a critical aspect of the weekend.

Without the assistance and sponsorship of Fourth Day, these weekends would not be possible. With your assistance we will be changing lives. As Gomer Pyle would say, “Thank ya” “Thank ya” “Thank ya”. Your humble service, support, and prayers do not go unnoticed. Believe me, it is greatly appreciated!

May all the glory go to Him.

Sincerely, The Entire Emmaus Team of Walk 59!

Women's Walk 59A

“Here I am Lord, use me.”  What a blessing to be used by my Heavenly Father as Lay Director of Walk 59A on September 19-22, 2019.

My heart has been so blessed as I watched Him piece together this team with 53 beautiful vessels of His. Each one, ready and willing to be all that He asks of them.

The theme is “A Light in the Dark” and the scripture is Matthew 4:16 the people living in darkness have seen a great light, on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned. The song is “Shine a Light” by Elevation Worship

We as Team 59A ask you, (Fourth Day) to come out and join us on this weekend; serve a meal, write or create agape gifts, come to candlelight, sponsor someone, wash dishes,  give “green agape”, pray, pray, pray, for team members, pilgrims and all of their families. Whatever God lays on your heart, know that He will use every gift of service, great or small, to further His kingdom this weekend.
