Thoughts from Community Board

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Indiana Walk to Emmaus (SIWE), we would like to thank the 4th day members for their continued prayers and devotion to our Emmaus community.  It takes a lot of hard work each walk season to orchestrate these events.  I have always loved Proverbs 27:17,  As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”.    We see a lot of “iron being sharpened” on the Emmaus weekends, and our 4th day people are a big reason why.  All parts of these weekends are important, whether it be sponsoring a pilgrim, serving on a team, serving meals, making agape, participating in the 72-hour prayer vigil, attending a gathering or candlelight, and the list goes on and on.  There is a role for everyone to play in the Emmaus community and no one duty is more important than the other.  Christ calls us all to serve in different ways.  But each form of agape is needed to make each walk special for the pilgrims.

We want to thank Camp Illiana for the amazing facilities they offer for our walks.  Ben and the staff work very hard to keep our needs met in every way.  It seems they are constantly upgrading some part of the camp.  In return, we ask you help us to always return the camp as good or better than we found it.  This will insure that we can all enjoy this special place for many years to come.

Obviously, sponsorship is a key part to building the Emmaus community.  However, we ask that you prayerfully consider individuals when sponsoring.  Emmaus is intended for those who regularly attend a church and are looking to deepen their relationship with Christ.  It is this deepening relationship that moves those individuals to become Christian leaders.

Walk dates can be found near the bottom of this page.  We ask for your prayers for the Emmaus community, the teams and pilgrims, and the Board of Directors as we make decisions for the community, always seeking Gods will in everything we do.  Please feel free to contact any of the board members if you have question or concern.  Our contact information is listed on this website.  We meet monthly (1st Tuesday of each month) at First Baptist Church in Petersburg, Indiana, at 7:00pm

Your Brother in Christ

Men’s Walk #56

I have been blessed beyond measure to call God’s team to serve the pilgrims of Men’s Walk 56, which is March 8-11, 2018.  Our prayer is that Christ will walk beside pilgrims for these 72 hours, just as He walked beside the women on the road to Emmaus over 2,000 years ago, and that He will reveal Himself to the pilgrims and to the team in a new and powerful way.

The theme for Men’s Walk 56 is CHAIN BREAKER.  The scripture is Psalm 107:13-16 “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and gloom and broke away their chains.  Let them thank the Lord for His steadfast love and His wonderful works to human kind.”

The theme song is “Chain Breaker” by Zach Williams.  We pray that Christ will be a way maker, a chain breaker, and a pain taker so that the men of Walk 56 return home to be the friends, husbands, and fathers whom God wants us to be.

Thank you Fourth Day.  YOU always show up, and YOU are not taken for granted.  We solicit your prayers for the pilgrims, for the unity of Team 56, and that none of us on Team 56 is an obstacle to grace.  Thank you for sponsoring pilgrims, for showing up to serve meals, and for showing up at candlelight.  Thank you for flooding the pilgrims with agape.  We will be praying for Fourth Day at each formation, knowing that God is using you just like He is using our team.

Do not hesitate to contact any of our heads listed below if you have questions how to best serve the pilgrims on Walk 56:

Women’s Walk 56

It is a pleasure and honor to serve God and the Southwest Indiana Walk to Emmaus Community as we prepare for Women’s Walk 56, which will be held March 15-18, 2018!  It is with great anticipation the team of Women’s Walk 56 is preparing for this special weekend.  It is our prayer that the pilgrims of Walk 56 will leave the campground that Sunday with “CHANGED” lives and a vibrant, renewed relationship with our Lord.  We pray that they leave strengthened and prepared to go back to their homes, churches, and places of work and bring the love of Christ to others.

The theme for Women’s Walk 56 is “Changed” and the scripture is 2 Corinthians 5:17: “If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has gone, behold the new has come!”  The theme song is “Different” by Micah Tyler and the theme picture is pictured here.

Agape is such an important part of Emmaus.  I am asking that you pray about providing Agape to the Pilgrims of the Spring walks.  Those little gifts, trinkets, and cards mean so much.  Please mark Agape as either “Table” or “Bed” so we can deliver accordingly (if you have a preference).

Also, we would certainly appreciate any “Green Agape” for our Cooks and would love to see you help serve at one of the meals.  Most importantly, we ask for your continued prayers for these precious pilgrims and for our team.  1 John 5:14 promises us that if we pray ANYTHING according to His will, He hears us!  So we thank you, as a team, for the prayers our Father has already heard on our behalf because of your faithfulness and we ask that you not grow weary in this task!

Should you feel led to help serve on the Women’s Walk 56 weekend in any way, please feel free to contact any of the Head’s below:

Women’s Walk 56A

What an honor and privilege it is to be called as Lay Director of Walk 56A.  God is certainly doing a beautiful job of orchestrating an amazing team.  We are looking forward to having the awesome opportunity to be His hands and feet, lavishing the pilgrims of Walk 56A in love.  Walk 56A will be held, March 22-25, 2018. The theme for the weekend is, “Stand Firm.” Our verse comes from 1 Corinthians 15:57-58, “Thanks be to God! He gives us the Victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore, my dear brothers, STAND FIRM. Let nothing move you.  Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” The theme song is, We Believe” by Newsboys. The passage, 2 Corinthians 1:24 states, “…but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.”  The song, “We Believe”, is such a beautiful proclamation of the very foundational ideologies of our faith, which help us to stand firm!

An important part of Emmaus is Agape.  Please consider creating agape, bed or table, for our pilgrims.  Of course, “green agape” is always welcomed and very appreciated by our cooks!

Most importantly, we ask you to join us in praying for the entire weekend.  Pray that the pilgrims will leave the experience ready to “stand firm”, no matter what lies ahead for them.  Pray that our team will be unified by the Holy Spirit, as we are preparing to serve the Lord in whatever capacity we are called.

We so appreciate ALL you do to serve the Lord by participating in these walk weekends, Fourth Day! Praying God lays people on your hearts who would be great candidates as pilgrims for Walk 56A.

Our team consists of these Head’s Positions:
